NEW COMMIT: Chris Lower has accepted his appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy where he will swim beginning next fall. Lower is from Clayton, North Carolina where he is a senior at Corinth Holders High School. He swims for his father, Ed Lower, on New Wave Swim Team.

Lower said of his decision,

“I am excited to be spending my next four years swimming for the United States Coast Guard Academy. It was my number one choice and was everything I was looking for in a school. Go Bears!!”

His top times include:

  • 200 Fly 1:52.96
  • 100 Fly 52.04
  • 400 IM 4:07.57
  • 200 IM 1:56.14
  • 100 IM 53.41
  • 50 Free 22.00

At the 2017 North Carolina 3A High School state championships Lower placed third in the 200 IM in his lifetime best time. He also touched seventh in the 100 fly with a 53.24.

The US Coast Guard Academy finished second at last year’s NEWMAC Championship and Lower will be a significant addition to the team’s efforts. At the 2017 Championships Lower would have touched fifth in the 400 IM. Sophomore Colin Fenster was third in 4:06.42 and classmate Taylor Rowe was fifth in 4:08.82. They’ll overlap with Lower for a year. Lower would be a 200 IM B finalist. Sophomore duo Fenster and Dan Moreno were ninth and tenth in 1:55.22 and 1:56.68. They’ll be great training partners for Lower in his first year. In the 200 butterfly Lower would have touched fourth last year and been the school’s highest finisher. He’s just over a second away from the school record, a 1:51.73.
