Three-for-Three, Andrew Wilson Concludes Perfect Division III NCAA Championships

The 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships have nearly come to an end and Andrew Wilson has completed a perfect run.

Men’s 200 Breast

2016 Champion: 1:57.78 – Ian Reardon, Kenyon

Going three-for-three, Emory senior Andrew Wilson completed a perfect NCAA Championships: Three individual titles with three Division III NCAA records. His swim of 1:50.80 broke his own mark from December. As per usual, Wilson took command of the race right from the start and never let up.

Reigning NCAA Champion Ian Reardon of Kenyon took second in 1:58.04, just off his winning time from last year. In a tight race between Michael Lagieski (1:58.51), Timothy Kou (1:58.60) and Tanner Sonnek (1:58.98), Reardon got to the wall first just tenths ahead of his competitors. Aside from Wilson, Reardon had the fastest first half in 56.23 followed by Kou in 56.70. A patient Lagieski was able to sneak in for third to add to his second-place finish in last night’s 100 breast.

Trevor Manz also scored valuable points for Kenyon placing sixth with a 1:59.25, but the Lords’ efforts will be just shy of an overall National Championship title this time around as the Eagles lead the way by 36 points with two men’s events to go.

While Wilson’s loyalty to Emory is commendable it would have been fascinating to see what he would have done against Will Licon & Co. had he stayed in Texas — where he trained @ UTbfir the Olympic Trials in 2K15-’16–rather than return as he did.
Well we’ll see what he does @ thevWorld Championships Trials in a couple of months. Cordes, Milker and Licon are the likely U.S. Men who’ll be on the blocks but don’t count Wilson out just yet.

whether you are in Austin, Shenandoah, Buffalo or Anchorage, the times are remarkable. Maybe, just maybe, he might have an inkling of desire to get the best education possible by returning to Atlanta.
