Simone Manuel Sprints to 50 Free Knockout Title in Santa Clara

The final knockout race for the women’s meet included Abbey Weitzeil, Simone Manuel, Lia Neal, Katie McLaughlin, Kelsi Dahlia, Amy Bilquist, Madison Kennedy, Farida Osman and Katrina Konopka. 

Weitzeil won the first round after posting a time of 25.15 during prelims. Manuel (25.28), Neal (25.29) and McLaughlin (25.41) also secured their spots in the semifinals.

Dahlia (25.42), Bilquist (25.46), Kennedy (25.53), Osman (25.71) and Konopka (25.73) also raced during prelims.

Manuel finished first during semifinals, touching the wall in 25.05. Weitzeil wasn’t too far behind in 25.20. Neal (25.32) and McLaughlin (25.58) rounded out that heat.

Olympic gold medalist Manuel dominated during finals with a time of 24.67. Weitzeil stopped the clock in 25.64.
