Sierra Schmidt Dances Like Beyonce In Pre-Race Ritual (Video)

PISCATAWAY – The phrase “dance like no one’s watching” definitely applies to North Baltimore Aquatic Club distance freestyler Sierra Schmidt. At last weekend’s CeraVe Invitational in New Jersey, Swimming World noticed Schmidt’s very elaborate pre-race routine, which included a seemingly choreographed dance to music coming from her earphones.

One of our interns, Nicholas Lehman, caught up with Schmidt last Saturday to learn more about this special routine. The 16-year-old cited Beyonce as a major influence, and named two of the songs she listens to before her races.

“I love dancing, and I love music,” she said. “Usually, I get really nervous behind the blocks. It helps calm me down before the race.”
