Reece Whitley’s Double, Grace Sheble’s IM Highlight NCAP Invite Friday

Reece Whitley is not competing in his typical breaststroke events this weekend at the Nation’s Capital Invitational, but he still posted some impressive marks in a pair of off-events on the first full evening of the Nation’s Capital Invite.

Whitley picked up the win in the men’s 200 free in 1:37.23, just a bit slower than his 1:36.99 from prelims, and he later added a win in the men’s 100 fly in 48.26.

Also in the senior men’s competition, Machine’s Casey Storch won the 100 breast in 54.94, and Poseidon’s Sean Hogan won the 400 IM in 3:51.61.

For the women’s meet, 15-year-old Phoebe Bacon blasted a 53.26 to win the women’s 100 fly over more celebrated NCAP teammate Cassidy Bayer, and Machine’s Anna Keating won the 100 breast (1:01.02). Central Bucks’ Morgan Scott won the 200 free (1:46.60), and Asphalt Green’s Isabel Gormley took the win in the 400 IM (4:14.61).

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Grace Sheble blasted a 4:09.00 to win the 13-14 girls’ 400 IM, making her the No. 2 all-time performer in that event in the United States. Sheble also won the 100 breast in 1:02.65.

Greenwich YMCA’s Meghan Lynch won the 13-14 girls’ 200 free in 1:49.15, and NCAP’s Mackenzie McConagha won the 100 fly in 54.70.

In the 13-14 boys’ competition, NCAP’s Brett Feyerick won the 200 free (1:41.59) and 100 fly (50.74), while NCAP’s Eric Liao won the 100 breast (1:02.65) and teammate Andrew Blusiewicz won the 400 IM (4:08.77).

11-12 girls’ competition saw Long Island’s Tess Howley win both the 100 free (52.49) and 100 back (58.53), while NCAP’s Eleanor Sun won the 50 breast (30.16) and Long ISland’s Cavan Gormsen took first in the 50 fly (26.84).

Finally, in the 11-12 boys’ meet, Long Island’s Matt Beehler matched Howley by finishing first in the 100 free (51.00) and 100 back (57.41). NCAP’s Jordan Evans won the 50 breast (24.79), while teammate Kris Lawson won the 50 fly (25.56).

In relay action, a Sheble-led NOVA squad edged out NCAP to win the 13-14 girls’ 200 free relay in 1:35.42, while NCAP won the 13-14 boys’ (1:31.02), open women’s (1:32.97) and open men’s (1:22.29) relays.
