Psych Sheets Released For 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships; Competition Begins Today

Competition for the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships begins today at 9 a.m. UTC in Hawaii, but before competition gets underway here is a quick look at some highlights from the psych sheet.

Australia’s Minna Atherton reigns atop the entries for both the 100 (59.34) and 200 (2:08.00) backstrokes, and currently sits at twelfth in the 100 free.

Matthew Wilson of Australia and Reece Whitley of the USA and  will have multiple chances for some head-to-head competition as the two enter as the first and second seeds in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

The USA’s Ryan Hoffer leads the way in the men’s 100 fly with a 52.89. Hoffer is also seeded second in the 50 (22.80) and 100 (49.73) free, and fifth in the 100 back.

Cassidy Bayer and Ruby Martin of the USA will deliver a 1-2 punch as the top two seeds in the women’s 200 fly. Bayer enters with a seed of 2:07.97, more than a second faster than the Jr. Pan Pac meet record of 2:09.02. Watch for Bayer in the 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM as well.

Eva Merrell of the USA will have a busy schedule on the women’s side with a total of five individual events. Keep an eye on Merrell in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 back.

Team USA captain Sean Grieshop boasts a busy schedule with multiple events going into the competition as the top seed in the 400 free (3:52.60) and 400 IM (4:14.00), as well as top standings in the 200 IM, 200 free, 800 free, and 1500 free.
