NEW COMMIT: Swim Houston Aquatics Center’s Jenny Yu has committed to swim for MIT beginning next fall. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a senior at Glenda Dawson High School.

Her top times include:

  • 100 Back 55.91
  • 50 Back 27.17
  • 200 Back 2:05.66
  • 50 Free 23.77
  • 100 Free 52.26
  • 200 Free 1:53.93
  • 100 Fly 56.68
  • 50 Fly 26.08

Yu gives Dani Korman and her coaching staff a number of options in any given lineup. At last year’s NEWMAC Championships Yu would have been a significant contributor to the team’s first place effort. With her best time, she would have won the 100 backstroke and been just a half second shy of the Conference (and school) record. Her best 100 fly would also have been good for first place points.

In the 50 freestyle Yu’s best time would have finished second, behind MIT freshman Priscilla Wu (23.53). Her top 200 freestyle time would have placed fourth, just behind the Engineers’ freshman Kelly Craig (1:53.58) and Yu would have been the 100 freestyle runner up. Given her speed and versatility Yu should be a key relay piece as well.

The MIT women went on to finish eighth at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships. Yu’s best time would have been good for 14th in the 100 back.

Yu said,

“So excited to announce my commitment to study and swim at MIT next year! Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way! #MIT2022”
