Jack LeVant Claims Two Wins at 2017 Speedo Sectionals in College Station

The 2017 Speedo Sectionals continued today in College Station, TX. Jack LeVant of North Texas Nadadores posted two wins, while Gabrielle Kopenski added another distance free win to her name.

Julia Cook of Aggie Swim Club un-corked a 1:54.48 to claim the win in finals of the women’s 200 back. She shaved 1.42 seconds off her prelims time of 1:55.90. Sam Metzsch of Texas A&M finished second overall with a 1:56.92, while Ellery Parish of Streamline Aquatics was third with a 1:57.68.

The men’s 200 back was highlighted by a trio of close 1:45s. North Texas Nadadore’s Jack LeVant led the charge with a top time of 1:45.06, touching a shy .01 seconds ahead of Nitro’s Ethan Gogulski’s 1:45.07. Katy Aquatic Team for Youth’s Glen Cowand finished third overall with a 1:45.15.

LeVant added a second gold in the men’s 200 fly unleashing a 1:45.47 to scrape 2.84 seconds off his prelims time of 1:48.31. Luis Fabricio Soto Ramirez posted a 1:46.45 for second, followed by Palo Alto Stanford Aquatic’s Alex Liang’s 1:47.91.

New York Athletic Club’s Breeja Larson turned in the top time in the women’s 100 free, stopping the clock at a 49.74. 16-year-old Isabelle Henig of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics’ finished close behind with a 49.80, followed by Texas A&M’s Kornkarnjana Sapianchai’s 49.95.

Albert Gwo of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics’ and Timothy Clayton Bobo of DADS finished a shy .02 seconds apart in finals of the men’s 100 free. At the finish it was Gwo with a 44.49 over Bobo’s 44.51. CFSC’s Sean Morey completed the podium with a 45.00 finish.

The women’s 200 fly featured strong swims by the younger athletes as teenagers Ashlyn Fiorilli (15) and Miriam Guevara (16) finished 1-2. Fiorilli turned in a 1:57.23, bettering her prelims time of 1:58.67, while Guevara was second with a 1:58.35. 19-year-old Alexandra Buscher grabbed third with a 1:58.54.

One night after winning the 1000 free, Gabrielle Kopenski added another scorching win in the women’s 500 free. Kopenski stopped the clock at a 4:41.22, finishing just over three seconds ahead of the competition. Magnolia Aquatic Club’s Kaitlynn Sims and Mansfield Aquatic Club’s Haley Yelle were second and third with times of 4:$4.27 and 4:47.81 respectively.

William Thomas of Lost Creek Aquatics took the title in the men’s 500 free with a 4:25.62, followed closely by 18-year-olds Glen Cowand (4:26.12) and Grant Reed (4:26.66).
