Jack Dahlgren Impresses at MSHSL Boys Section 2AA Meet

Minnetonka won the 2018 MSHSL Boys section 2AA swimming and diving meet, in advance of next weekend’s Minnesota High School state championships. The team scored 490 points. Shakopee was second with 320.5 points and Prior Lake was third with a total of 240 points.

The 200 medley relay was won by the Chanhassen team of Jack Dahlgren, Craine Dolan, Evan Bock and Ryan Druce with a time of 1:33.21. They were followed closely by the Minnetonka’s Quinn Yeager, Teddy Nordvold, Erik Gessner and Iassac Alberts with a 1:33.35. Third went to the Shkopee team of Liam Bergerson, Jack Bjelland, Teddy Johnson and Garrett Riley with a time of 1:35.50.

Dahlgren continued his winning streak with a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.81. He was followed by Sean Dwyer of Prior Lake with a time of 1:40.50 and Soren Dunn of Eden Prairie in 1:41.91. Dunn won the 100 freestyle in 46.60. Shakopee’s Alex Kraft was runner up (46.77) and Henry Skinner of Prior Lake touched third (46.86). Dahlgreen added a second individual gold in the 100 backstroke with his 48.85. Shkopee’s Bergerson (50.38) and Gessner (51.45) completed the podium.

Craine also continued on a winning streak after the relay, take a first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.72. John Shelstad of Minnetonka finished in a close second with a time of 1:50.80. Nicholas Tullenmans of Eden Prairie was third with a time of 1:54.64.

The 50 freestyle was another close race. Chanhassen’s Druce came out the victor with a time of 21.28 while Skinner was less than a tenth back in 21.35. Riley was third in 21.60.

Gessner added another win for Minnetonka with a 49.33 100 butterfly. His teammate John Shelstad was second (50.30) and Eden Prarie’s Alex Deng touched third (50.56).

Sean Dwyer of Prior Lake won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.19. Luke Ridler of Chaska followed with a time of 4:39.70 and Jake Derouin of Eden Prairie rounded out the podium with a time of 4:40.42.

The 200 freestyle relay was won by the Shankopee team on Gavin Wicklander, Brandon Gorter, Riley and Kraft with a time of 1:25.58. Minnetonka’s John Shelstad, Alberts, Michael Shelstad and Zach Ambrosen teamed up for second in 1:27.08. Prior Lake was third with their team of Skinner, Benjamin Johnson, Spencer Will and Sean Dwyer (1:28.29).

The 100 breaststroke was won by John Wargin of Minnetonka with a time of 58.58. He was closely followed by Deng of Eden Prairie in 58.62 and Deng’s teammate Nicholas Tullemans (58.75).

Shakopee’s Wicklander, Gorter, Bergerson and Kraft won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:06.78. Minnetonka (Shelstad, Ambrosen, Shelstad, and Gessner) edged Chanhassen (Dahlgren, Samuel Brennan, Bock, and Craine) 3:08.22 to 3:08.60 for second.
