NEW COMMIT: Canton, Conn. native Will Gallant has announced his verbal commitment to join the Indiana Hoosiers as a member of the class of 2023.

Gallant does his club swimming with West Hartford Aquatic Team where he is a two-time U.S. Open qualifier. He capped off a successful long course season with two golds, a silver and a bronze at the TYR ISCA Senior Championships. At the ISCA Northeast Showcase in March, he won six events and recorded eight new lifetime bests.

Gallant, who just entered his senior year at Canton High School, has recently dropped a tremendous amount of time. Over the course of one season, he has knocked off 13 seconds in the 500, 27 in the 1000, 55 in the mile and and 14 in the 400 IM. Gallant has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

He told Swimming World:

“IU will challenge me academically and athletically. I look forward to my four years as a Hoosier!!!”

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:29.49
  • 1000 free – 9:11.73
  • 1650 free – 15:25.68
  • 400 IM – 4:00.77

The Hoosiers will gain more distance freestyle depth when Gallant arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season. He will join a talented training group that includes Corey Gambardella and Spencer Lehman, the latter of whom was Indiana’s top performer in both the 400 IM and mile at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.
