Grace Countie Earns Two Top Seeds at NCSA Championships

Grace Countie of Marlins of Raleigh earned two top qualifying spots on the fifth and final day of the NCSA Junior National Championships in Orlando, Fla.

Countie first posted a time of 24.77 to give herself the middle lane as the top qualifier for tonight’s women’s 50 back final. Nation’s Capital’s Phoebe Bacon is seeded a close second in 24.81 and Aquajets’ Abigail Kapeller is third in 25.06.

Sylvania Tsunami’s Robert Kondalsi earned the top spot this morning in the men’s 50 back after getting his hand to the wall first in 22.48. Second went to Academy Bullets’ Spencer Walker (22.55) and third went to Hasa’s Mitchell Whyte (22.62).

Nova’s Grace Sheble was the only swimmer to crack the two-minute barrier this morning, stopping the clock in 1:59.16 for the top seed. Grosse Pointe’s Sophie Housey is second in 2:00.13 and Nasa Wildcat’s Annika Wagner is third in 2:00.54.

Machine’s Casey Storch cruised to first this morning in the men’s 200 IM, posting a time of 1:48.55. Nation’s Capital’s Sean Conway (1:48.67) and Vipers of Albuquerque’s Josh Harlan (1:48.68) will each swim in a lane next to him this evening.

Countie was back in the pool again, posting yet another top-seed qualifying time in the women’s 50 free with a quick 22.53. Scottsdale’s Claire Grover (22.61) is the second seed and Delta’s Grace Cooper posted the third-fastest morning time in 22.74.

Metro Atlanta’s Willie Davis sprinted his way to the top seed in the men’s 50 free with a time of 20.24. His teammate William Davis is right behind him in 20.32 and Rockwood’s Jack Dolan is currently third in 20.44.

Finals will begin tonight at 5:30 p.m. EST.
