Exeter Girls, Bishop Guertin Boys Win New Hampshire Division 1 High School Meets

New Hampshire crowned the Exeter girls and the Bishop Guertin boys as the 2018 Division I High School swim and dive state champions on Saturday afternoon at the University of New Hampshire.

Girls

The Exeter girls scored 291.5 points. Bedford was second with 212 points. The 200 medley relay set the tone where Exeter’s Mackenzie PatchHannah LordReagan Lord, and Erin Madden won in 1:53.15 and Bedford’s Brooke GouldTaylor LeeAubrey Patrick, and Isabelle Tagliaferro were second in 1:56.51.

Keene freshman Teresa Ivan won the 200 free (1:52.87) and Hannah Lord was second in 1:56.34. Lord swam back to back events, winning the 200 IM by ten seconds in 2:09.36. Reagan Lord topped the 100 fly in 59.07.

Dover senior Alirose Beauregard won the 50 freestyle in 26.02, a half second ahead of Tagliaferro in 26.42. Beauregard was runner up in the 100 free (56.92) behind Zoe Freedman in 56.21.

In 5:13.24 Lauren Brennan won the 500 free for Merrimack. Londonberry’s Kaitlin Witkop won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.02). Nashua South’s Ava Rondeau won the 100 back in 1:00.44, just faster than Patch in 1:00.54.

The team from Keene beat Bedford by .03 for the 200 freestyle relay victory. Exeter later won the 400 freestyle relay by seven seconds (3:44.81).

Boys

Bishop Guertin scored 350 points while Exeter was second with 272 points. As in the women’s meet, the top two teams went one-two in the opening 200 medley relay. Aidan DaudlierMark ZodaMatthew Rantala, and Michael Shusta won for Bishop Guertin in 1:37.63 while Jack Carignan, Mason PomroyTony Min, and Charles Blake were second for Exeter in 1:38.18.

Bedford’s Trent Levasseur won the 200 free in 1:45.09 ahead of Bishop Guertin teammates John Puksta (1:45.36) and Jack Januario (1:47.10). Puksta won the 100 free in 48.25.

Another Bishop Guertin swimmer, Matthew Lashua, finished on the podium, winning the 200 IM in 1:56.96. His teammate Zoda won the 50 free in 21.57, ahead of Carignan in 22.08. Bishop Guertin went one-two in the 500 free with Januario (4:44.75) and Lashua (4:50.27). Carignan, a senior, won the 100 backstroke in 51.45.

Exeter’s Min edged Rantala 52.40 to 52.75 for the 100 fly victory. Min was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.37) behind Zoda (58.50).

Bishop Guertin dominated the 200 freestyle relay, winning by five seconds with a 1:29.39. They won the 400 freestyle relay by an even larger margin- nine seconds- with a 3:12.96.
