Elise Garcia, Andrew Koustik Among Double Winners at CIF SS Division 2 Meet

CIF meet records continue to fall this weekend, as a few more came down at the Southern Section Division 2 meet on Saturday afternoon. Los Osos won the girls meet with 254.5 points and Foothill scored 249 to win for the boys.

Girls

In the very first relay, Foothill (Samantha PearsonGabriella ValentiCameron Mykkannen, Sidney Shimomura) and Redlands East Valley (Samantha NickellJenna SanchezAutumn D’Arcy, and Sydney Benveniste) got to the wall at the same time, both touching in 1:45.17.

Pearson then went two for two, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:46.27. Los Osos’ Casslyn Treydte was runner up in 1:48.22. Treyde’s teammate Emily Trieu won the 200 IM with her 2:00.26, ahead of a trio of 2:03s. Treydte was also runner up in the 500 free, getting just edged by Redlands East Valley’s Liberty Williams 4:48.87 to 4:49.26.

Crean Lutheran went one-two in the 50 freestyle. Senior Elise Garcia came up shy of her own meet record, but finished first in 22.71. Mandy Brenner was second in 23.37. Cal bound Garcia hopped right back up to win the 100 butterfly with a quick 52.92.

Mira Costa’s Alexandra Crisera edged Pearson 48.92 to 49.33 for the 100 freestyle section title. Crisera was second in the 100 backstroke (53.71), a half second behind Trieu (53.21). Both swimmers were slower than the section record of 52.87 Crisera set in prelims.

Diamond Bar’s Kelsey Lloyd won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.92.

Boys

The boys from La Canada took down the Division meet record in the opening 200 medley relay. Danny SyrkinEddie CosicThomas Hoffman, and Matt Bilaver combined for a 1:32.98, knocking down a five year old record of 1:33.39 set by Crescenta Valley.

Syrkin, only a sophomore, posted a division record in the 100 fly, getting to the wall in 47.48. He also won the 100 backstroke in 48.87.

Christopher Mykkanen (1:38.68) of Foothill lead a trio of 1:38s into the wall in the 200 freestyle. His teammate Zane Scott posted a 20.96 50 freestyle, ahead of a pair of 21.15s from Bart Salvaterra and Colin Le. Scott also won the 100 freestyle with a 45.36. His teammate Hunter Ingram was runner up, just .06 back in 45.42.

Palos Verdes Peninsula’s Aiichiroh Ahirakata posted a 1:49.46 to win the 200 IM, the only swimmer under 1:50.

Andrew Koustik of Calvary Chapel-Santa Ana swam away with the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:20.98. Mykkanen (4:28.02) was runner up. In an interesting combination of events, Koustik won the 100 breaststroke in 54.88, taking down the four year old meet record of 54.91.

After an impressive showing in the 100 freestyle, Mykkanen and Scott teamed up with Ingram and Ryan Griswald to win the 400 freestyle relay for Foothill in 3:04.7.
