ECU Men and Women Win Relays on Night Two of AAC Championships

With just relay-only action last night, the 2018 American Athletic Conference championships day two finals session got underway this evening, introducing the individual races.

Houston’s Zarena Brown opened up the meet with a win in the women’s 500 free by posting a 4.44.59 which earned her a pool record. Taking second was UConn’s Emma Smith (4:46.49) while third was given to Houston’s Samantha Medlin who swam a 4:48.63.

SMU’s Jonathan Gomez took the men’s race in a 4:19.26 which obliterated his own pool record of 4:30.21. Cincinnati’s Din Selmanovic took second in a 4:20.01 while his teammate Christopher Brendan nabbed third place with his 4:21.48.

In the women’s 200 IM HU’s Eleanna Koutsou touched first in a 1:58.68 while her sophomore teammate Peyton Kondis nabbed a second place finish in a 1:59. 75. ECU’s Juliette Lajoie touched third with her 2:00.29.

Cincinnati freshman Dominic Polling (1:46.07) took the men’s 200 IM while his teammate Katherine Gob took the win in the women’s 50 free with a new pool record time of 22.80.

SMU’s Nicholas Badsky (20.13) touched out ECU’s Gustavo Santos (20.33) in the men’s 50 splash n’ dash while Cincinnati’s Alex Fortman was just .01 behind in 20.34.

Cincinnati Sophomore Claire Schuerman won the women’s 1-meter diving with her score of 261.45.

The ECU women notched a pool record into their belt with their production of a 1:31.24 ahead of Houston who produced a 1:31.47 while SMU touched in 1:32.05.

The ECU men also nabbed the win in the 200 free relay by putting together a 1:20.49. SMU took second with their time of 1:20.64 while Cincinnati snuck into third with a 1:20.93.
