Dexter Claims Michigan Boys Division 2 High School State Crown

Dexter High School scored 241.5 points to win the 2018 Michigan Boys Division 2 High School swimming and diving state championships. Only 21.5 points behind was Rochester Adams, with a total of 220 points.

Birmingham Groves’ Robert HagnerPatrick SeidelJackson Gugni, and David Helton won the 200 medley relay in 1:33.65, just three tenths faster than Birmingham Seaholm’s Michael ArpasiTom GirdlerIain Bukowinski, and Nolan Grout in 1:33.94.

The 200 freestyle came down to the touch. Dexter’s Niklas Eberly touched in 1:40.16, just faster than De La Salle Collegiate’s senior Daniel Frederick in 1:40.22 and Portage Central’s Owen Miller in 1:40.55. Eberly’s second victory was achieved in dominant fashion as the junior touched in 48.83 in the 100 butterfly, a second and a half ahead of second place: Arpasi (50.23).

Fraser High School sophomore Alexander Capizzo was well ahead of the field in the 200 IM, winning with a 1:50.42. Capizzo also topped the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:27.48. Frederick of De La Salle was second (4:30.75).

Birmingham Seaholdm’s senior Arpasi won the 50 freestyle with a 20.83. Taking runner up honors was Birmingham Groves’ Gugni (21.04) while Midland Dow’s Jacob Krzciok (21.10) was third. The 100 freestyle victory went to De La Salle’s senior Zach Milke in 44.97. Milke also won the 100 backstroke, finishing in 49.63. Dexter’s Alex Shehab was second, clearing 50 with his 49.99.

Grosse Pointe South’s Matthew Koueiter won the 100 breaststroke with a 56.71.

Dexter won the 200 freestyle relay, in another close finish. Eberly, Tanner SharpStephen Sterlitz, and Casey Dolen touched in 1:24.95. Midland Dow finished second with a time of 1:25.19 and the team of Krzciok, Collin CheBen Newman, and Zach Fwekes.

De La Salle Collegiate’s Hunter BroskiBen RancilioDaniel Frederick, and Zach Milke were first to the wall in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.28, just half a second ahead of Dexter’s Eberly, Shehab, Clayton Kinnard, and Casey Dolen in 3:07.76.
