CeraVe Invitational: Day Three Age Group Features Pair of Meet Records

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey, January 17. THE third day of age group swimming came to a conclusion at the CeraVe Invitational hosted by the Berkeley Aquatic Club on the campus of Rutgers University. The session featured a pair of meet records by Jamie Lee and Evan Coleman.

Girls 11-12 100 Free
Jessica Arana of Long Island Aquatic Club started off Sunday's Age Group with a final time of 1:04.55. Arana's first swim gained her a ZONE qualifying time.

Clinching second and third place were Ridgewood YMCA's Annmarie Picinich (1:05.70) and Elite Swim Club's Kaitlin Stearns (1:05.94). Both Picinich and Stearns swam ZONE qualifying times.

Fourth through sixth-place finishers Kelly Czochanski, Andrea Galea and Cathy Tan all improved their seed time and achieved ZONE qualifying times, respectively.

Boys 11-12 100 Free
John Nunez of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics captured first place with a time of 1:00.51. John's final time eclipsed his previous seed time by nearly two seconds achieving a ZONE qualifying time in the process.

Touching right behind Nunez at a time of 1:01.90 was Zachary Towers of Long Island Aquatic Club. He was followed by favorite Liam Egan, 11, of Badger Swim Club, finishing with a time of 1:02.23. Both swimmers achieved ZONE qualifying times.

Girls 13-14 400 Free
Erin McElfresh of Lansing Cats finished more than three-and-a-half seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. McElfresh swam a 4:35.94, a sectional qualifying time.

Swimming in for second and third were Molly Treble, 13, of Long Island Aquatic Club, and Natalie O'Brien, 14, of Lansing Cats. Treble and O'Brien had final ZONE qualifying times of 4:39.59 and 4:42.35, respectively.

Boys 13-14 400 Free
Joseph Petrone edged out Jersey Wahoo teammate Ryan Richards by less than a second en route to a victory in the 400 Freestyle. Joseph recorded a 4:21.40, good enough to be a ZONE qualifying time.

Richards took second with a time of 4:21.79, nearly a seven-second improvement on his previous seed time. Ridgewood YMCA swimmer Eric Kim finished in third with a time of 4:22.70. Both Ryan and Eric achieved ZONE qualifying times.

Westchester Marlin's Jamie Lee clocked in for first with a ZONE qualifying time of 36.15 in her first race of the day.

Second and third places were taken by Alessia McGowan of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics and Ana Neff-Jendrasko of coastal Marine Aquatics with ZONE qualifying times of 37.09 and 38.59, respectively.

Fourth through sixth place finishers Madeline Kang of Long Island Aquatic Club, Isabelle Rivera of Berkeley Aquatic Club and Hadley Chang Ackerman of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics all achieved ZONE qualifying times during their race.

Berkeley Aquatic swimmer Will Crewe took first place with a time of 37:19, edging out Westchester Marlins' teammates Brian Glatt and Mark McLaughlin by less than a second. Crewe swam a ZONE qualifying time and earned nine points in the race.

Glatt and McLaughlin clocked a time of 37.34 and 37.50, respectively. They, along with Rhyan Cloutier, James Simone, Garrett Towne, Jonathan Hua, Sam Sweeny, Aristides Speres and Hiroki Kaneko, attained a ZONE qualifying time.

Girls 11-12 50 Fly
Erica Silverman of Westchester Marlins clinched a first-place victory, swimming more than a second faster than her seed time. Silverman's 32.12 is a ZONE qualifying time.

Tatum Lawson of Berkeley Aquatic Club and Isabel Obregon of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club finished second and third with times of 32.28 and 32.32, respectively. Both Lawson and Obregon swam ZONE qualifying times.

Andrea Galea of Elite Swim Club swam more than two seconds faster than her seed time to touch for fourth with a ZONE qualifying time.

Boys 11-12 50 Fly
Zach Katz of Elite Swim Club narrowly defeated Asphalt Green Unified Aquatic swimmer John Nunez for a victory in the 50 butterfly. Zach improved on his seed time, swimming a 30:66, just shy of the meet record.

Nunez swam a 30.76 good enough for a top two finish for the second time today, previously capturing first place in the 100 Free earlier this afternoon. He was followed by 11 year old Leonid Chernukha of Long Island Aquatic Club, who swam a 32:31. Both attained ZONE qualifying times.

Girls 13-14 100 Fly
Lansing Cat's Erin McElfresh's second race was also her second victory. McElfresh cruised to victory more than three and a half seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. McElfresh swam a sectional qualifying time of 1:03.91

Following McElfresh for second and third place finishes were Lindsay Stearns of Elite Swim Club and Gabby Toback of Long Island Aquatic Club. Both Stearns and Toback dropped times from their seed time, and swam ZONE qualifying times of 1:07.52 and 1:08.69, respectively.

Fourth through 10th- place finishers Erin Barry, Katie Duncalf, Colby Harvey, Shirley Chan, Kara Miller-Radest, Zoe Gregorace, and Sydney Wight all timed in with ZONE qualifying times.

Boys 13-14 100 Fly
Heavy favorite Evan Coleman of Coastal Maine Aquatics crushed the competition en route to a first-place finish and the meet record in the 100 butterfly. The 14 year old clocked a 1:00.48, which was good enough for a Sectional Qualifying time. He beat the 1:01.22 put up by Kyle Madley in 2007.

Eric Kim found himself in the top three for the second time today. The Ridgewood YMCA Swimmer placed second in the event with a time of 1:04.06. He narrowly edged out third place finisher Nick Riepe, who clocked a time of 1:04.75. Both swimmers, along with ten others, achieved ZONE qualifying times.

Girls 10&U 100 Free
Alessia McGowan of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics swam more than a second and a half faster than her seed time to pull of a win. McGowan's time of 1:09.00 secured her a first place victory and her second ZONE qualifying time of the day.

Jamie Lee of Westchester Marlins finished in the top three again, this time second with a 1:09.26, a ZONE qualifying time. Touching for third was Long Island Aquatic Club's Lauren McNally with a ZONE qualifying time of 1:11.64.

Fourth through sixth place finishers Ana Neff-Jendrasko, Isabelle Rivera, and Madeline Kang all achieved their second ZONE qualifying time of the day during this race.

Boys 10&U 100 Free
Aristides Speres narrowly edged out Badger Swim Club teammate James Simone to capture first place in the 100 Meter Freestyle. Speres achieved his second ZONE qualifying time of the day, clocking a 1:10.40 in the race.

Simone finished a little more than a second behind Speres, swimming a time of 1:11.50. He was followed by Coastal Marine Aquatic swimmer Rhyan Cloutier who finished with a 1:11.69, shaving nearly three seconds of his previous mark. Both Simone and Cloutier attained their second Zone qualifying time of the afternoon.

Andrea Galea of Elite Swim Club swam more than four seconds faster than her seed time to achieve a first place finish and a ZONE time of 1:11.91.

Jessica Arana of Long Island Aquatic Club finished in the top three again, this time with a second place finish and a ZONE qualifying time of 1:13.55, just edging out teammate Cathy Tan who also swam a ZONE qualifying time of 1:14.20. This was both Arana and Tan's second ZONE qualifying time of the day.

ZONE qualifying times were also achieved by fourth through seventh finishers Mary Fitzsimmons, Isabel Obregon, Annmarie Picinich, and Taylor Emmanuel, respectively. This was Fitzsimmons and Emanuel's first, and Picinich and Obregon's second ZONE qualifying time of the day.

Westchester Marlins' swimmer Robby Purvis captured first place in the 100 Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:09.64 good enough for a ZONE qualifying time. Robby finished just two seconds shy of the meet record, set in 2008 by Philip Kang.

Alex Martin of the Jersey Wahoos Swim Club finished in second place with a time of 1:10.68. He was followed by eleven year old Liam Egan of Badger Swim Club, who found himself in third place for the second time today. He attained a ZONE qualifying time recording a 1:12.74 in the race.

Zach Katz, Anton Khrystenko, Zachary Towers, and Tyler Meyers all also achieved a ZONE qualifying time.

Girls 13-14 200 Back
Katie Duncalf of Westchester Marlins secured her second ZONE time of the day, finishing more than two and a half seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a final time of 2:29.77.

Erin McElfresh of Lansing Cats placed in the top three in all of her events today. McElfresh clocked in with a ZONE qualifying time of 2:32.54, more than two seconds faster than her seed time. Emma Grace Housman clinched third along with her second ZONE time of the day, a time of 2:33.07

Fourth through ninth place finishers Katherine Curran, Mary Kate Davis, Sara Nestrowitz, Gabby Toback, Jennifer Shahar and Isabelle Corgel all swam ZONE qualifying times, respectively.

Boys 13-14 200 Back
Patrick Conaton, 13, of Badger Swim Club took first place in the 200 Meter Backstroke with a time of 2:19.04. The favorite in the race, he finished just ahead of Ridgewood YMCA swimmer Eric Kim.

Eric was once again in the top three for the third time this afternoon. His time of 2:20.82 also resulted in his third ZONE qualifying time. Evan Coleman of Coastal Maine Aquatics finished third with a time of 2:21.29. Evan placed in the top three for the second time today and attained his second ZONE qualifying time of the afternoon.

Girls 10&U 100 Fly
Ten year old Jamie Lee of Westchester Marlins is three for three today. This was Lee's third finish in the top three, and her third ZONE qualifying time of the day. Not only did Lee's time of 1:15.17 secure her an easy first-place finish more than five-and-a-half seconds ahead of the field, but it broke a 15-year-old record set by Adrienne Williams in 1995.

Nadia Eguchi of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics touched for second with time of 1:20.92. Swimming in for third was Long Island Aquatic Club's Alice Ye with a time of 1:21.79. This was the first ZONE qualifying time of the day for both Eguchi and Ye.

Boys 10&U 100 Fly
Cole Collier of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics touched for first place with a time of 1:18.90. He finished nearly five seconds ahead of the next competitor, Will Crewe of Berkeley Aquatic, securing a ZONE qualifying time in the process.

For the second time today, Crewe finished in the top three and achieved a ZONE qualifying time, finishing this race with a 1:23.41. Michael Gregorace, 9, of Long Island Aquatic Club shaved three seconds of his previous seed time and took third place with a 1:23.83. Michael achieved his first ZONE qualifying time of the day.

Girls 11-12 200 IM
Jessica Arana of Long Island Aquatic Club clocked in with a 2:34.14, securing another first place finish by almost five seconds. This was Arana's third top-three finish, as well as her third ZONE qualifying time of the day.

Team-mate Cathy Tan finished second to Arana with a ZONE qualifying time of 2:39.12, her third ZONE time of the day. This was also Arana's second top-three finish today. Third place was clinched by Westchester Marlin's Erica Silverman. Silverman swam her first ZONE time of the day with a time of 2:40.90.

Swimming in for fourth was Isabel Obregon of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club who achieved her third ZONE time of the day with a time of 2:41.35

Boys 11-12 200 IM
Liam Egan, 11 of Badger Swim Club captured first place in the 200 Meter IM with a time of 2:30.33. His time eclipsed his previous mark by almost four seconds. Liam finished in the top three and achieved a ZONE qualifying time for the third time today.

Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics swimmer John Nunez placed second with a time of 2:32.93. Nunez placed in the top two for the third time today. His second place finish in the 200 IM marks the third time Nunez has recorded a ZONE qualifying time.

Following Nunez in third place with a time of 2:33.60 was Zach Katz of Elite Swim Club. He along with six others achieved ZONE qualifying times.

Girls 13-14 100 Breast
Erin Barry, 13, of Berkeley Aquatic Club clocked in with a 1:18.76 ZONE qualifying time for a first place win.

Second was clinched by Jessica Reynoso, 14, of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics who swam a ZONE qualifying time of 1:20.44. Swimming in behind Reynoso for a close third was Long Island Aquatic Club's Zoe Gregorace with a ZONE qualifying time of 1:20.84.

Boys 13-14 100 Breast
Andy Schuehler of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club took first place in the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a 1:10.17, breaking the meet record previously set by Will Rappaport. He finished two seconds ahead of closest finisher Max Tremain of Badger Swim Club.

Max took second place with a time of 1:12.55. He was followed by Scarlet Aquatic Club swimmer Scott Huang who finished with a 1:12.96. Both swimmers achieved a ZONE qualifying time.

John Om, Harold Choo, and Christopher Aventuro also attained ZONE qualifying times. s.
