Brogan Davis, Reagan Ragsdale Lead Central (Cape Girardeau) to Missouri Boys High School Title

It was a fairly close finish for the top three teams at the 2016 Missouri Boys High School State Championships. At the end of the afternoon Central (Cape Girardeau) totaled 227 points. Blue Springs South posted 210, just a half point more than third place finisher Rock Bridge with 209.5.

Central Cape Girardeau bookended the meet with relay wins. The 200 medley relay squad of Jacob Bening, Sam Hahs, Brogan Davis, and Reagan Ragsdale stopped the clock in 1:32.65. They were followed by Rock Bridge’s Ryan Gilbert, Zach Lorson, Paul Cover, and Caleb Rhodenbaugh in 1:35.13. Austin Wolfe, Spencer Steward, Evan Holt, and Grant Sloan picked up third place honors (1:35.99) for Kearney.

The same three teams took over the podium in the 400 freestyle relay. Central Cape Girardeau put Bening, Truman Vines, Davis, and Ragsdale at the top in 3:07.28. Kearney’s same quartet earned second place honors (3:10.49). Rock Bridge’s Dane Florea, Cover, Gilbert, and Lorson posted a 3:12.00 for third.

Central Cape Girardeau swimmers also picked up four individual titles. Davis was first to the wall in the 200 IM (1:48.21) and 100 fly (48.85). In the 200 IM, Lee’s Summit North’s Liam Bresette was on his tail in 1:48.88 and his teammate Dam Drew also earned a spot on the podium in 1:51.35. MICDS’ Max Goldenberg posted a 49.59 for second and Liberty’s Noah Witzki was third (50.61) in the 100 butterfly.

Davis’ senior teammate Reagan Ragsdale took the sprint freestyle double this afternoon. He registered a 20.92 in the 50 and a 45.83 in the 100. Eureka’s Mason Jung out touched Kearney’s Sloan 21.25 to 21.16 for second in the 50. 100 free silver went to Wolfe (46.83), followed by Ragsdale’s teammate Bening (46.88).

Holt added to his Kearney relay hardware with a winning 1:39.94 200 freestyle. Wolfe (1:41.69) and Rock Bridge’s Zach Lorson (1:42.80) completed the top three. After a runner up 200 IM, Bresette led the way in the 500 freestyle with a 4:24.68. Florea touched in 4:30.80 for silver while Holt took bronze (4:35.34).

Kirkwood’s Jack Weaver won the 100 backstroke in 49.67. Joining him under 50 was Chaminade’s TJ Halliburton (49.98). Rockhurst’s Collin Nill finished third in 50.86. The 100 breaststroke state title went to Lee’s Summit’ Sam Drew who posted a 56.02. His teammate Andy Huffman swam a 57.12 just faster than Rhodenbaugh in 57.16.

Nick Keller, Kyle Hepting, Ben Morgan, and Jake Workman won the 200 freestyle relay for Blue Springs South in 1:26.14. Rhodenbaugh, Gilbert, Jack Allen, and Florea swam to a 1:27.59 for silver for Rock Bridge. Christian Brothers’ Carlos Moreno, Dominic Cyr, Charlie Eversman, and Brooks Cosman (1:28.01) finished third.

Francis Howell North’s Peter Lucido scored 486.00 points to win the one meter diving. MICDS’ Hunter Grannum (467.65) was second and Cole Earl from Glendale scored 459.20 for third place.
