Boise State Extends Lead at Mountain West Championships

Boise State extended their lead by over 200 points at the 2017 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships.

Boise State dominated the 400 medley relay, winning by over five seconds. The team of Allyson Kleinsorgen (53.13), Laura Williams (1:01.65), Brittany Aoyama (51.87), and Katelyn Martin (47.75) touched first in 3:34.40, crushing the previous meet record.

San Diego State’s McKenna Meyer won the 400 IM. The freshman dropped four seconds from her prelims time to take the title in 4:12.54. Colorado State’s Haley Rowley finished second in 4:14.15 and San Diego State’s Frida Berggren took third in 4:14.83.

Following her fast relay split, Boise State’s Aoyama won the individual 100 fly. The senior won in 52.04. San Diego State’s Summer Harrison took second in 52.68 and New Mexico’s Kanoha Shinada finished third in 53.62.

Boise State’s Emma Chard cruised to the win in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:45.59. Nevada’s Teresa Baerens touched second in 1:46.32 and Air Force’s Genevieve Miller took third in 1:47.19.

Wyoming’s Maria Harutjunjan was the only swimmer to crack the one-minute barrier, finishing the 100 breast in 59.85. Her time broke the meet record of 1:00.21. UNLV’s Sofia Carnevale grabbed the silver in 1:00.48 and Colorado State’s Jenna Beaury got bronze in 1:01.89.

After leading off the winning relay, Boise State’s Kleinsorgen won the individual 100 back gold in 53.24. Colorado State’s Tonicia Thomas finished second in 53.79 while her teammate Rowan Hauber took third in 53.86.
