NEW COMMIT: George Mason University has added a verbal commitment from Laura Hodge for the Class of 2022. Hodge is a senior at Blacksburg High School. She trains year round with H2okie Aquatics, where she’s been a member for the past 10 years.

Hodge has had a great senior season, posting lifetime bests in the 50 through 500 freestyles, 200 IM, 100 and 200 fly and 100 backstroke.

Her best times include:

  • 100 Free 52.91
  • 200 Free 1:51.44
  • 500 Free 4:58.81
  • 100 Fly 57.69
  • 200 Fly 2:05.11
  • 200 IM 2:05.62

At the 2018 Virginia 4A High School State Championships Blacksburg finished third. Hodge was runner up in the 200 freestyle and touched fifth in the 500. She was also a member of the third place 200 freestyle relay.

She said of her decision,

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at George Mason University next Fall! Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for supporting me along the way #gopatriots”

At this year’s A10 Championships Hodge would have been a 500 freestyle B finalist. Sophomore Hannah Ikenberry appeared in that heat, and will have two years to train with Hodge. She also would have been a 200 freestyle B finalist, and the team’s only scorer in the event. Hodge would also be a 200 butterfly B finalist. George Mason had two A finalists in that event last year, but only Christina McLemore will still be on the roster next year, and she will be a senior.
