Lauren Pitzer, Ford Blaylock Claim Gold in First Session of Austin Futures

Thursday night’s timed finals of the Futures Championships in Austin, Texas proved to be a fast one. Lauren Pitzer of Lakeside Aquatic Club took the women’s 800m free by storm, taking the event by over 10 seconds in 8:44.63, taking a massive 6.81 seconds off of her seed time.

Marcy Johnston of Rockwall Aquatic Center took second in 8:55.69 while Kaylyn Flatt managed a third place finish in 8:59.76.

Katherine Sullivan, Taylor Acheson, Lauren Peterson and Haley Hynes of The Kansas City Blazers owned the 800m free relay, winning by almost 2 seconds in 8:25.72. Rockwall took second in 8:27.22 and Magnolia Aquatic Club snagged third place by .06.

On the men’s side, Ford Blaylock of Rockwall Aquatic Center dropped a over 30 seconds to take the 1500m free in 15:59.98, edging out Alamo Area Aquatic Association’s Samuel Brettmann, who clocked a 16:01.34 to take second. Barrington Swim Club’s Mitchell Gavars followed close behind in a 16:05.44, shaving almost 10 seconds off of his seed time.

In the men’s 800 free relay, Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club took the crown in 7:38.69, lead by Dillon Simpson, Brandon Quinteros, Braxton Moore and Sean Morey. Nitro Swimming clocked a second place in 7:39.11 and Lakeside Aquatic Club took third in 7:46.87
