Alexei Sancov Ties Maxime Rooney’s 200 Free NCS Meet Record

Saturday morning at Las Positas College in Livermore, California Monte Vista walked away with the girls CIF North Coast Section title, scoring 292 points, ahead of Campolindo’s 253.5 points. The San Ramon Valley boys totaled 327 points to finish well ahead of Campolindo with 275.

Girls

Zoie Hartman was the star for Monte Vista. The junior won the 200 IM in 1:57.37 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.40. She split a 27.12 on the breaststroke leg of the team’s 200 medley relay. She teamed up with Abriana HowardMakenna Turner, and Gillian Flath as the quartet dominated in 1:41.24.

Kendall Johannson, Flath, Jenna Seaman, and Hartman won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.80. Miramonte’s Katrina DrakeEloise EngsMargaux McDonald, and Sophia Kosturos won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.55 ahead of Johansson, Seaman, Turner, and Howard with a 3:28.56. Kosturos clocked a 23.19 to win the 50 freestyle and 50.06 for 100 freestyle gold, just edging Dublin freshman Claire Suen (50.35).

Granada’s junior Miranda Heckman dominated the 200 freestyle in 1:47.38. Turner (1:50.10) was runner up. Turner moved up to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, finishing in 53.94. Heckman, a Texas commit, also won the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:45.37.

Boys

Northgate’s Alexei Sancov turned heads in the meet’s first individual event, swimming a 1:33.70 in the 200 freestyle, tying Maxime Rooney‘s meet record in the process. Foothill junior Jonah Cooper (1:36.78) edged teammate Calvin David (1:36.89) for second.

David was second again in the 500, touching in 4:21.73 while USC bound Sancov was first to the wall in 4:20.10, slower than his meet record of 4:17.17 set in prelims.

Cooper later made his own mark on the record board, blasting a 46.33 to win the 100 backstroke and dip under his own meet record mark, a 46.73 set in prelims.

The 200 IM meet record came down at the hands of Amador Valley senior Chris Jhong who touched in 1:45.51. He set the record in prelims with a 1:46.19. His teammate Cole Reznick touched second (1:50.12).

Sam Ramon Valley senior Spencer Daily won the 50 freestyle (20.43) while Clayton Valley junior Niklas Weigelt (45.31) took the 100.

Another senior won an event when De La Salle’s Daniel O’Connel posted a 47.74 in the 100 butterfly. Senior Matt Wilcox of College Park topped the 100 breaststroke in 55.03.
