Akron Wins Fifth-Straight Women’s MAC Championships

Akron won their fifth-consecutive women’s Mid-American Conference Championships title, finishing with a total of 827.5. Eastern Michigan finished second with a total score of 590.5, followed by Buffalo (573), Miami Ohio (516), Bowling Green (333), Toldeo (254), Ohio (253) and Ball State (158).

Women’s 1650 Free

Eastern Michigan’s Nicole Swartz won her second individual event of the weekend, this time in the mile. The junior dropped over ten seconds from her entry time ton win in 16:18.82.

Miami Ohio’s Emma Bradley finished second in 16:25.48 and Buffalo’s Hannah Miller took third in 16:27.17.

Akron’s Brooke Lamoureux (16:30.35), Miami Ohio’s Ella Moynihan (16:36.81), Buffalo’s Brittney Beetcher (16:39.60), Eastern Michigan’s Kaitie Scanlan (16:40.31) and Eastern Michigan’s Sarah Dombkowski (16:41.95) completed the top eight.

Women’s 200 Back

Eastern Michigan’s Casey Gavigan dropped over two seconds from her prelims time to win the 200 back for the Eagles second win of the night. The sophomore stopped the clock in 1:55.93.

Her teammate Claire Young finished second in 1:56.65 and Toledo’s Izzy Jones was third in 1:58.05.

Buffalo’s Nicole Roitenberg (1:58.81), Miami Ohio’s Abby Stone (1:59.25), Akron’s Ellie Nebraska (1:59.52), Miami Ohio’s Izzy Herb (2:00.00) and Buffalo’s Olivia Sapio (2:00.22) rounded out the A-final.

Women’s 100 Free

Buffalo senior Megan Burns cruised to victory in the 100 free, stopping the clock in a quick 48.61.

Akron’s Morgan Waggoner finished second in 49.45 and her teammate Sadie Fazekas took third in 49.88.

Buffalo’s Eve Kosten (49.98), Ohio’s Corrin Van Lanen (50.11), Buffalo’s Andrea Ernst (50.15), Eastern Michigan’s Amelia Armstrong-Grant (50.36) and Akron’s Susan Franz (51.10) also swam in the fastest heat.

Women’s 200 Breast

Akron’s Paloma Marreri cruised to first in the 200 breast for her second victory of the weekend. The senior won gold in a time of 2:09.13.

Eastern Michigan’s Delaney Duncan grabbed the silver in 2:11.13 and Akron’s Paula Garcia took bronze in 2:11.99.

Akron’s Anne Lochridge (2:14.70), Miami Ohio’s Holly Schuster (2:14.83), Buffalo’s Grace Baumer (2:15.02), Bowling Green’s Nicole Borgerding (2:17.62) and Miami Ohio’s Macey Neubauer (2:18.11) rounded out the A-finalists.

Women’s 200 Fly

Akron swept the podium in the 200 fly, led by Mackenzie Vargas. The sophomore dropped over two seconds from her prelims time to win with a final time of 1:57.05.

Vargas’ teammate Paulina Nogaj touched the wall second in 1:57.24 and Jessica Bonezzi finished third in 2:00.03.

Akron’s Jackie Pash (2:00.39), Buffalo’s Nicole Roitenberg (2:01.63), Buffalo’s Saoirse Palu-Benson (2:01.63), Akron’s Alisa Tsypin (2:01.80) and Eastern Michigan’s Emilie Desnoyers (2:02.81) also swam in the A-final.

Women’s 3-Meter Diving

Miami Ohio’s Pei Lin dove to first in the 3-meter diving with a total score of 402.55. This is the senior’s first win of the meet after placing second in the 1-meter and her fourth-straight win on the 3-meter board.

Bowling Green’s Talisa Lemke took second in 366.45 and Eastern Michigan’s Alli Shereda finished third with 326.50 points.

Eastern Michigan’s Brielle Johnston (301.70), Akron’s Karly Crail (384.45), Eastern Michigan’s Sophia Tsafantakis (281.50), Ball State’s Rachel Bertram (280.50) and Bowling Green’s Claire Stam (252.15) also dove in the A-final.

Women’s 4×100 Free Relay

Akron’s Morgan Waggoner (49.98), Nogaj (49.30), Madison Myers (50.02) and Nebraska (49.62) cruised to first in the meet’s final event with a time of 3:18.92. Buffalo finished second in 3:19.06 and Miami Ohio was third in 3:22.64.

This article is all messed up and poorly edited (if at all) 100 free results show C-USA teams and not MAC finishes. Also, diving has correct team names but incorrect diver names correlated with the teams; Becca Quesnel dives for FIU, not Miami-OH.
