In a near sweep of the Men’s and Women’s Pac-12 Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, the Sun Devils took both honors on the women’s side and diving honors on the men’s.

A pair of freshmen in Nora Deleske (swimming) and Ashley McCool (diving) took home weekly accolades on the women’s side and for McCool, it’s the second in the last three weeks. For the men, sophomore Youssef Selim earned the diving award.

Deleske’s 200 fly, a newer event for the freshman, was part of the turning point for a Sun Devil women’s team that won 9 of 12 individual swim events, including seven straight, to defeat No. 22 Arizona for the first time in 25 years.

She also was part of the Devils’ 200 medley relay team, the first event of the meet, that helped set the pace for the victory. Deleske also took second in the 200 breast and fourth in the 200 IM.

McCool, the school record holder in the 3-meter springboard, won both the 1-meter (324.00) and 3-meter (358.28) in the Sun Devil women’s upset of No. 22 U of A.

Selim earned his first Pac-12 Diver of the Week award after finishing first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard in a commanding win, 203.5-94.5, for the No. 7 Sun Devils over No. 18 Arizona.

With the win, the Arizona State men have defeated or tied Arizona every year for the past three seasons after not earning a win over the Wildcats for almost 15 years prior.

Cal’s Ryan Hoffer was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Week. He helped lead Cal’s undefeated squad (5-0) in a dual-meet win at USC, 168-123, over a three-day span. He started off swimming the anchor leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:26.07) and then placed second in the 400-free relay (2:55.62). The freshman scored maximum points in his two individual races placing first in the 50 free (19.79) and 100 free (44.20). In his first collegiate season, Hoffer ranks fourth in the nation in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free.
