Women’s 100 Freestyle

No women cleared the German Olympic prelims qualification time of 55.08, nor the finals standard of 54.41. Annika Bruhn took gold in 54.85. Anna Dietterle followed for silver in 55.06, while Helen Scholtissek claimed bronze with a time of 55.18.

Men’s 100 Freestyle

Damian Wierling won gold in 48.54. While he cleared the finals German Olympic standard, he was not fast enough this morning. Bjorn Hornikel tied for second with Paul Biedermann as the two touched in 48.65. Mario Kusch and Steffen Deibler, the only two swimmers to clear the prelims Olympic standard were both slower tonight, finishing seventh and eighth.

Women’s 200 Fly

Franziska Hentke breezed under the qualifying standard (2:11.07) this morning with her world’s tenth 2:07.49. Tonight she was well ahead of the field again, finishing in 2:05.77, now the second best time in the world this year, and over three seconds faster than the German Olympic qualifying time. Only Madeline Groves has been faster, with a 2:05.47 at the Australian Championships.

Martina van Berkel from Switzerland finished second in 2:08.50. Third place went to Julia Mrozinski with a 2:10.87.

Men’s 200 Fly

Alexander Kunert cleared the prelims standard with his 1:57.05 this morning, but was not faster than the 1:56.33 necessary in finals. Regardless, he still won gold in 1:57.11.

Silver went to Markus Gierke with a 1:57.68. Bronze belonged to David Thomasberger in 1:58.61.

Vanessa Grimberg touched first in 1:07.91 to win the event by nearly a second. Jessica Steiger finished second in a 1:08.83 while bronze went to Laura Simon in 1:09.34.

No swimmer cleared a minute in this event. Marco Koch touched first in 1:00.22. Silver went to Hendrik Feldwehr in 1:00.26. Fabian Schwingenschlogl, who was the NCAA Champion in the short course yards edition of this event, earned bronze in 1:00.46.

Lisa Graf won the women’s 200 backstroke with the world’s 13th best time, a 2:08.98. Second place went to Nadine Laemmler in 2:10.49. Jenny Mensing snagged bronze with her 2:10.63.

Men’s 200 Backstroke

With the fifth best time in the world this season, Jan-Philip Glania won gold in tonight’s final. He stopped the clock in 1:56.01. This morning he posted a 1:58.04 to clear the German Olympic prelims standard, and tonight’s time was also well under the necessary 1:58.02.

With a 1:57.46 Christian Diener earned silver. Mark Fischer was back in 2:00.96, fast enough for bronze.

Women’s 200 IM

Alexandra Wenk lowered the German National record again, touching in 2:11.33. This morning she posted a 2:11.41. Tonight’s time is the 12th best in the world this year. Her morning and night swims clear the German Olympic qualifying standards.

Second place went to Maxine Wolters in 2:13.90. Wolters hit the prelims Olympic standard, but came up short of the necessary 2:12.91 in finals.

Katarzyna Baranowska won bronze with her 2:14.72.

Philipp Forster finished second in 2:00.87. Third place went to Kevin Wedel in 2:01.04.
